Tiger baseball team wins two of three at Eastern Oklahoma
The No. 13-ranked Cowley College baseball team had a solid weekend in Wilburton, OK as they won two of three games against Eastern Oklahoma State College.

Cowley opened with wins of 16-2 and 4-1 before losing the final game of the weekend by a score of 11-9. The Tigers led the final game by six runs before the Mountaineers rallied.
"It was positive to win two of three games but when you have got a lead like that in the last game and lose it kind of ruins the whole weekend," Cowley assistant coach Darren Burroughs said.
Cowley is now 4-3 on the season. Tuesday's game at home vs. Seminole has been postponed. No makeup date has been announced.
On Friday, Cowley blasted the Mountaineers by a score of 16-2. Sophomore third baseman Ryan McBroom hit a three-run homer in a five run first inning and finished 2-for-4 with five RBIs. The home run by McBroom was his second of the season.
Cowley built a 10-0 lead and scored in all seven innings as they cruised to the win. Gage Grant started at first base and went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs, while freshman second baseman Butch Rea added three hits and four runs scored.
Sophomore outfielder Zach Mills added three hits out of the eighth spot in the Tigers' lineup as Cowley finished with 17 hits in the win.
Sophomore Levi Skinner improved his record to 2-0 on the season despite battling issues with his control. Skinner walked six but allowed only two runs in 3 2/3 innings pitched. Freshman Parker Rigler followed with 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Hunter Neal took the loss for Eastern Oklahoma as he allowed seven runs in three innings pitched.
On Saturday, Cowley got a dominating pitching performance from sophomore Seth Holman in a 4-1 win of the first game of a doubleheader. Holman struck out six and walked none over four scoreless innings but did not factor in the decision.
Sophomore Austin Sanders (1-0) followed Holman on the mound and allowed one unearned run in three innings of relief.
With the score tied 1-1 after five innings of play, Cowley scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning thanks to three errors by the Mountaineers. Pinch hitter Dylan Kuhn's run scoring single put Cowley in front 3-1.
Sophomore A.J. Shaw singled leading off the seventh, advanced to third on a single by Rea, and scored the game's final run on a single by sophomore shortstop Kris Molter.
Rea went 2-for-4 in the win as Cowley out-hit the Mountaineers 9-3.
In the final game of the series, Cowley led 8-2 before Eastern Oklahoma rallied to win 11-9.
The Tigers used a pair of four-run innings to give starting pitcher Storm Rynard a 8-2 lead when he left the game. Rynard allowed two runs in four innings, while striking out four and walking none.
Daniel Young hit a three-run homer off Tiger reliever Conner Murray in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut Cowley's lead to 8-5 and the Mountaineers grabbed the lead with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Freshman Nathan Gieber failed to record an out in the bottom of the seventh and was charged with three runs. Sophomore Tyler Day (0-1) relieved Gieber on the mound and surrendered the go-ahead run. Day also allowed a two-run homer by Nick Walker in the eighth inning.
Reggie Wright led Eastern Oklahoma at the plate by going 4-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Molter had another solid game at the plate for the Tigers, going 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Shaw, Grant, and freshman first baseman Bobby Bassler added two hits a piece, while Josh Armstrong went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
The Tigers will host Highland in a doubleheader Thursday at 2 p.m.
"It's always exciting to have our home opener and very seldom is our home opener our conference opener as well," Burroughs said. "We will try to continue and improve and correct our mistakes."
