KG25 Profile: Aidan Mills

Standout Newton defensive end Aidan Mills will play offensive tackle at Kansas State.

Aidan Mills’ recruitment is a testament to hard work. One might not expect a 6-foot-5, 265-pound two-way standout to struggle drawing interest from college football coaches, but that's exactly what happened with the KansasGridiron Top 25 prospect.

“Being from a small town, it’s a little bit of a burden,” Mills said of growing up in Newton, KS. “It really was a lot tougher than being at a bigger school in Wichita, or up in the Kansas City area. At least for me, it gave me a little more drive to work harder, and push a little harder in the weight room to impress coaches.”

"I had to go out of my way, and email coaches and colleges myself," he said of his recruitment. "Sending emails, linking highlights, and filling out recruiting questionnaires. Then going to camps, showcasing my skills, and showing them what I can do.”

Mills wasn't afraid to take his game on the road and prove himself on the camp and combine circuit. He travelled all the way to Texas for The Opening in Dallas. The all AVCTL honoree made it clear he could compete with the best.

"I think it really got my name out there, and helped with the process, having colleges notice me," he said of the Nike sponsored camp. “I PR’d in a couple of events at the combine, and got invited back for the second day of Regionals."

“The Regionals was more of the one-on-ones, and getting to compete with other individuals,” he continued about the camp. “There are definitely a lot of good athletes from Texas, and great programs down there. I was a little nervous at first, but once I took the first rep, hung in there, and beat most of them in the one on ones, I knew I could hang with these guys.”

After performing well in the Lone Star State, Mills made his way to Manhattan in early June for a one-day camp at Kansas State. The Wildcats offered him a scholarship a few days later as an offensive tackle, and the Railers senior committed later that week.

“Ever since I was little, I wanted to play college football,” the future Cat said. "It means a lot. Just being able to be selected to play for a great program like K-State, and to represent the athletes from Kansas. I’m looking forward to playing for them.”

Mills was happy to learn of his inclusion in the KansasGridiron Top 25. He talked about working to elevate the program at Newton, and his pride in representing his home state as a collegian.

"Being on the Top 25 list, it means a lot," he said of the countdown of the top prospects in Kansas. "Shows I’m being noticed, and that our school is getting back on the map. We can be a better football program. I’m just trying to represent my hometown, and go out and play hard.”

“It definitely does make me want to push every day to become a better player. To compete against teams from different states, and to be able to show them the kind of athletes that come out of Kansas."
