ONTJES JAYHAWK WEST COACH OF THE YEAR, PURCELL TOP FRESHMAN
Four members of the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team received honors on Monday as the 2014 Jayhawk Conference Western Division Team was announced. The No. 3-ranked Lady Dragons earned two of the league's three major postseason awards.

For the fourth-straight year, Lady Dragon head coach John Ontjes was named the conference's Coach of the Year. Forward Kalani Purcell became the second HCC player in history to be named the league's Freshman of the Year.
Joining Purcell on the first team is sophomore guard Jamie Patrick. Sophomore guard Jen'Von'Ta Hill was named to the second team.
The 2014 Lady Dragons won a fourth consecutive Jayhawk West championship with a 28-0 record. Hutchinson won its opening-round Region VI matchup on Saturday over Allen. Hutchinson will play Independence at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the Region VI quarterfinals in Wichita.
HEAD COACH JOHN ONTJES - Coach of the Year
In guiding the 2014 Lady Dragons to a fourth-consecutive conference championship, John Ontjes led his team to the program's third perfect regular season in program history.
The now 29-0 Lady Dragons ranked second in the Jayhawk West in scoring offense (80.4 points per game), first in field-goal percentage (47.2%) and first in 3-point percentage (34.4%). Hutchinson led the Jayhawk West and is No. 5 in the NJCAA in scoring defense (49.8 points per game), led the nation in field-goal defense (29.8%) and led the Jayhawk West in 3-point percentage (24.1%).
Ontjes moved into second place on the HCC career coaching list with a record of 215-24. Over the last four seasons, Ontjes' teams have posted a 131-6 overall record and 60-2 Jayhawk West record. HCC was the 2012 NJCAA national runner-up and 2013 NJCAA Tournament third-place team.
Over Ontjes' seven seasons, he has coached 21 all-conference players and all six of HCC's All-Americans.
KALANI PURCELL - Freshman of the Year, 1st Team
Kalani Purcell, a 6-foot-2 forward from Hamilton, New Zealand, joins Jackie Patterson (2009) as Hutchinson's only players to earn Freshman of the Year honors.
Purcell was Hutchinson's second-leading scorer at 12.9 points per game and leading rebounder at 10.21 rebounds per game.
Purcell led the Jayhawk West and was 13th in the nation in steals at 3.75 per game. She was second in rebounding at 10.21 per contest. Purcell was the league's ninth-leading scorer, fifth in blocked shots (1.29/game) and sixth in assists (3.68/game).
Heading into the Region VI quarterfinals, Purcell ranks second on Hutchinson's single-season steals list with 108 and is fourth in rebounding with 294.
Purcell set a single-game record this season when she pulled down 22 rebounds against Barton on Jan. 29 in Great Bend.
The freshman forward has posted 12 double-doubles this season and has had five games of 15 or more rebounds.
Purcell is a three-time Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week and was named NJCAA National Player of the Week on Feb. 12.
JAMIE PATRICK - 1st Team
Hutchinson Central Christian product Jamie Patrick becomes the 18th Lady Dragon to be a two-time All-Jayhawk West player. She was a second-team selection as a freshman.
Patrick is Hutchinson's leading scorer and the Jayhawk West's third-leading scorer, averaging 17.9 points per game. She has put together a tremendous sophomore season ranking in six different conference statistical categories.
Patrick ranks No. 2 in made 3-pointers (1.71/game), No. 2 in free-throw percentage (81.0%), No. 3 I field-goal percentage (54.1 percent), No. 3 in 3-point percentage (38.1%) and No. 9 in steals (1.82/game).
Patrick is Hutchinson's No. 4 all-time scorer with 990 points heading into the Region VI quarterfinals. He is No. 7 on the single-season scoring list with 518 points.
Earlier this year, Patrick scored 38 points against Northwest Kansas Tech, which tied for the third-best scoring game in Lady Dragon history.
Patrick posted three double-doubles this season. She was a two-time Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week and was named the NJCAA National Player of the Week on Jan. 8.
JEN'VON'TA HILL - 2nd Team
Point guard Jen'Von'Ta Hill led the Jayhawk West this season in assists averaging 5.54 assists per game. That ranks No. 17 in the NJCAA this season.
Hill, a 5-8 sophomore from St. Paul, Minn., is HCC's third-leading scorer at 10.8 points per game. She shot 37.7 percent from the field, but made crucial shots throughout the season, including a double-double performance of 22 points and a career-high 15 rebounds on Jan. 16 against No. 9 Seward County.
Hill also ranks No. 4 in the Jayhawk West in steals this season at 2.82 steals per game.
After 143 assists as a freshman, Hill became the fourth Lady Dragon ever to reach 300 career assists with 302. She is third in career steals with 154. Hill's 159 assists this season is No. 6 on the single-season list. She is tied for seventh in season steals with 82.
Hill has had 10 games with seven or more assists this season. She was named the Jayhawk West Player of the Week once.
