It was a great SC day

Southwestern racks up plenty of personal bests during perfect weather at Sonner Stadium
The old saying goes: if you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes.
The Southwestern track team, who has been running in sleet, snow, rain and wind, finally got to perform in something different ... sunshine.
Times plunged, distances grew, and national qualifying times were abundant Saturday at Sonner Stadium.
Both the Southwestern men and women teams were unofficial winners of the 16 team track meet as they prepare for the biggest meet of the year this Saturday.
Southwestern travels to the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Bethel College, hoping to repeat as conference champions. The men hope to make it 25 in a row, while the women hope to make it 15.
"With the nice day, everyone was itching for some pretty good performances," said Mike Kirkland, Southwestern head women's track coach. "With the weather problems we were behind. But now I felt we caught up pretty quickly."
Jim Helmer, Southwestern head men's coach, said SC had the right combination of quality athletes and weather brought together six new meet records.
"We got some momentum going early in the meet with the field events, and kept it going throughout the meet with one quality performance after another," Helmer said. "Our men had a total of 37 personal best performances, we had several national qualifiers, and we are stepping it up at the end of the season when it counts the most."
Highlights for Southwestern include:
•LaToya Nash getting a provisional qualifier in the 100-meter high hurdles.
•The women 4x100 meter relay stepped it up to a higher level with a 48.46 automatic time. "This is a top 10 time in the country," Kirkland said.
