Friday night summary

A close one in Class 6A in the NE, in fact, two close ones with lots of drama in 6A action as Wichita Heights turned away Derby at the one yard line to win 21-16, and Olathe North kicked a field goal with 14-seconds left to win 16-14. Heights moves to the championship against undefeated Olathe North

In Class 5A, Bishop Carroll had to play a perfect game to beat Hutch, they didn't. Turnovers and Josh Smith who ran for 305 yards for the night were the final story as the Carroll defense was unable to stop Smith, or Devion Dinwiddie who ran for over 100 yards himself.

Hutch will take on Gardner Edgerton as was expected as they defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 49-7 and make their first championship appearance.

Buhler certainly missed Jorden Oden in their game with Topeka Hayden and Hayden will defend their title which they achieved last season. Their opponent will be Bishop Miege, another 4A school which plays in a 5-6A League. Hayden is 9-4 and will meet Miege at 11-2 for the championship. Miege defeated Paola 48-12, and Hayden was a 35-21 winner over Buhler.

Both Class 3A games will be played on Saturday, Collegiate at Norton and Galena at Marysville.

Centralia defeated St. Marys 34-28 in Class 2-1A and will meet Smith Center who broke open a tie game at the half to defeat Oakley 33-20 for their 79th straight win.

Saturday, in 8-man-1, Baileyville at 12-0 will take on Quinter at 11-1 for the championship, and in 8-man-2, it will be 11-1 Hanover meeting 10-2 Quivira Heights.
